A wedding invitation tells your guests the essential details of your day, but there is often more information they need to know.
That is where a wedding details card comes in.
A details card is a separate piece of stationery included alongside your invitation, giving guests useful information without overcrowding the main invitation. It can include everything from accommodation and transport to dress codes, RSVP instructions and your wedding website.
The information you include will depend on your wedding, so you certainly don’t need to use every section below.
A wedding details card, sometimes called an information card or enclosure card, accompanies your wedding invitation and provides additional practical information for your guests.
While your main invitation usually includes your names, wedding date, venue and ceremony time, the details card gives you space for everything else guests may need before the day.
For a simple wedding at one venue, this might only be a few lines. For a destination wedding or celebration spread across several locations, your card may need to contain considerably more information.
There are no fixed rules. The easiest way to decide what belongs on yours is to think about the questions your guests are likely to have after reading the invitation.
If your ceremony and reception take place at different locations, include both venues and make it clear where guests need to be and when.
You can also include essential directions or parking information, particularly if your venue is difficult to find or has limited parking.
For lengthy directions or several travel options, keep the card simple and direct guests to your wedding website for the full information.
If guests are travelling to attend your wedding, you may want to recommend nearby accommodation.
Include the hotel name and any information guests need to make their booking, particularly if you have reserved a block of rooms, arranged a preferential rate or have a booking code or deadline.
Let guests know about parking arrangements, taxis, shuttle buses or organised transport between venues.
This is particularly useful for countryside venues or celebrations where parking is limited.

You don’t necessarily need to list local taxi companies, train routes and every possible transport option on the card. These are better suited to your wedding website.
Your details card is a natural place to include a dress code if you have one.
This can be as simple as:

If your celebration requires more explanation — perhaps because of the venue, weather or terrain — you can add a short note or provide further guidance on your wedding website.
If you have a wedding registry, honeymoon fund or particular wishes regarding gifts, these can be mentioned discreetly on your details card.
If you would prefer not to include gift information directly with your invitation, your card can simply direct guests to the relevant section of your wedding website.
Your invitation should ideally make it clear who is invited by naming the intended guests.
However, if you need to provide additional information about children or plus ones, your details card can be used for a short and polite clarification.
Avoid lengthy explanations. Clear wording is generally easier for both you and your guests.
If you aren’t including a separate RSVP card, your details card can tell guests how and when to respond.
Include an RSVP deadline together with the method you would like them to use.

Try not to turn your details card into a miniature wedding handbook.
Long directions, extensive hotel lists, taxi numbers, detailed schedules, FAQs and lengthy explanations can quickly make the design difficult to read.
Instead, prioritise the information guests genuinely need and move anything more detailed to your wedding website.
This also gives you somewhere to update information later without having to change or reprint your stationery.
As a general rule, if your details card is becoming noticeably text-heavy, it is worth asking whether some of that information would work better online.
Good wedding stationery should be easy to navigate at a glance.
Use clear headings, keep individual sections concise and leave enough space around the text for the design to breathe. You don’t need to fill every available area of the card.
For weddings with several venues, multiple events or lots of travelling guests, a combination of a short details card + wedding website is usually much easier to manage.
Not every wedding needs one.
If your invitation already contains everything guests need and your wedding is relatively straightforward, an additional card may be unnecessary.
A details card becomes particularly useful when you have additional information about accommodation, transport, different venues, dress codes, online RSVPs or your wedding website.
The aim isn’t to include another piece of stationery simply because you can. It is to make the invitation suite easier for your guests to understand.
